Sew What’s Up? What’s Up is I decided to pull myself away from the blog, the book, the computer, and all my other social media to do something fun. I have spent a good part of the day in my sewing room.
I picked some fabric off the shelf in my sewing room/sauna room and started cutting out quilt blocks for simple patch quilts that I will donate to the children’s hospital. I haven’t sewn a quilt in months. Summer is almost over (well half way) and I
haven’t made a single little dress for either of my granddaughters. Again I pulled off some pretty purple seersucker and cut them out matching dresses. Then I pulled some pink cow girl material off the shelf (how fun) and will cut out dresses tomorrow using the same pattern or maybe I will be adventuresome and try a different pattern.
I can’t tell you how much fun it was to use my creativity in a way other than my writing. It has been way too long since I have done any sewing. I won’t start the dresses until tomorrow. I can’t cut out the dresses with the shapes and prints and sew on the same day. There is just too much overstimulation visually to continue. I may try to start sewing the quilts together because it only requires straight stitching blocks together in a row and attaching the rows together. We will see since it is nearly dinner time and my energy is waning.
There is going to have to be more variety in my day. Therefore, I am going to have to allow myself time in the day to do some sewing. It is so easy to get distracted with all the marketing, writing, publicity, blogging, tweeting, and Facebooking (don’t think that is really a word). As a result nothing else gets done. If I seem a little distracted this coming week it will be because I am sitting in my sewing room, ipod blaring old music from back in the day, and my foot gently or not so gently (I am kind of speed demon on the sewing machine) pushing the pedal while I crank out some new project.
